What's Changed

Recent Updates

We keep improving the exercise — often because the agencies who use it tell us how.

Everything that's changed, newest first. Entries marked From partner feedback came from the agencies who play-test the exercise.

Fairer outcome ratingsJul 2026From partner feedback
Fixed a scoring quirk where a flawless run in one of the shorter roles could still be told "avoidable harm occurred". Your final rating now scales to the role you played, so a perfect game reads as a perfect game.
Sharper tactical mapsJul 2026
Redrew the between-phase maps as sharp, high-resolution graphics for both scenarios — a spreading wildfire for Ashdown and a site-severity board for Solstice. Swapped the prominent emoji for crisp pixel-art icons, and added support for reduced-motion settings.
Cleaner landing & game screensJul 2026
Reworked the landing screen so Play leads, with a plain-language intro and facilitator notes tucked into an accordion. Decluttered the in-game screen — a slim consequence pill replaces the always-on four-meter tracker, with the full detail a tap away. Calmer motion and colour, plus keyboard focus outlines throughout.
Fairer question designJul 2026From partner feedback
Rebalanced the answer options across every role and both scenarios so the best answer no longer stands out by its length or level of detail.
Timed decisions now wait for youJul 2026From partner feedback
The countdown only starts once you've revealed the options, with a moment to read them first — and every timer now runs longer, so you're not rushed before you've taken the situation in.
In-app feedbackJul 2026
Added a feedback button so you can tell us what's working, what isn't, and what to build next — the source of many of the changes on this page.
Privacy-friendly analyticsJul 2026
Added cookieless analytics and anonymous usage logging (which roles and scenarios get played) — no personal data, no consent banner.
Sharper agency boundariesJun 2026From partner feedback
Refined several decisions so each sits with the right agency and matches how command actually works — hospital major-incident plans, ambulance surge management, wildfire mutual aid (and the correct control-room terminology), and crew safety in extreme heat.
A ninth roleJun 2026
Added the Voluntary Agency Coordinator (third-sector liaison) to both scenarios, bringing the roster to nine playable roles.
Scenario-specific briefingsMar 2026
Added pre-exercise briefings, national-guidance links, and end-of-game learning points tailored to each role and scenario. Fixed the header showing the wrong operation name and corrected some broken guidance links.
First releaseMar 2026
Two scenarios, eight command roles, a four-phase decision flow with timed pressure calls, consequence meters, branching, and a full results and debrief.
